Web 2 Technolgies
There are so many different technologies, where do I begin. Well firstly I am using this blog as part of my foundation degree, other technologies I have used are web cams, podcasts.
I have used and intend to carry on using these two in particular where appropriate, it can be all to easy to use web technologies for the sake of using them, or becuse they are there.
The course I teach on are NVQs and are not always appropriate to use say a podcast as the course is tailored to suit that particular student. In a group I could have 30 students 5 of which are doing Word Processing, 10 doing spreadsheets and therest doing everything from database to designing web pages. In this case a podcast would not suit all my students.
A web cam would be useful both at work and at home, this would give me face-2-face contact with the student to help them with their problems with the course. It would have course be dependant that both student and tutor have the technology available.

Maybe the podcast could be a short motivational boster! If they don't attend class you could deliver a podcast where the content seeks to help them feel part of a wider community of leaners.

I agree with what you say in a normal tutoring situation but I look after an NVQ class where there is no timetable or even the same units for each student.
I can try and use for some units but how would students feel if I did not include units that they were studying.
This is something I need to think about, and plan more rigourously.

Yeah - I think it's dependent on the course content and the individual students. This is the problem when you are giving students choices of units to study etc. I found this a problem when I was trying to teach New CLAIT, a few years back. However then I did not have the knowledge and experience that I do know.
Small video clips could be used for the various IT units. Handouts and quizzes created in hot potatoes could also be beneficial.
I agree with Dave's comments about the podcast in this instance, you could use it as a motivationl tool or to issue class information etc.
